What Makes A Relationship Good?
What is the most important characteristic for a good relationship? Is it love, or passion? Maybe it's communication or trust? Well, I think I have an answer. I say honesty must be the most important thing in a good relationship.
I think a relationship, good or bad, is not really possible at all without communication. But, I said a 'good relationship', communication must already be there. And, I'm not saying that passion, love and trust are not important aspects. They're all very important, indeed. But, I'm saying honesty is, without a doubt, foundational to an extent that exceeds the others.
You see, without trust you can still love someone. You can have a relationship with love and without trust, but it's not a good one. In the absence of trust there is always a perpetual state of emotional turmoil. And passion or lust exists wonderfully outside of relationships. There are plenty of relationships with no passion or lust that still function well enough. Passion should not be underrated, neither should it be overrated.
Trust makes love meaningful. Trust makes passion even more beautiful. So why is trust not the most important thing to a good relationship? Well, it's because there is one other thing that makes trust possible. That is honesty. You cannot actually trust someone who is not honest with you.
Being honest may in some circumstances cost you the relationship. But, if you are honest you're at least trustworthy and that leads to a good charac
ter. Having a good character makes you more worthy of another's love.
